Kitchen Cabinets- Reface or Replace?

The saying “out with the old, in with the new” does not always have to apply to a kitchen that has seen better days. Recently we had a client that did not love the kitchen in their newly purchased home. We came up with some options for what we could do to improve the kitchen’s appearance and also make it more functional. We moved some existing cabinets to accommodate a larger stove and new refrigerator, added some open upper shelving to lighten up the space, and built a cabinet to house a stacked washer and dryer. We re-faced the existing lower cabinets with a modern grey oak veneer and re-painted all of the upper cabinets in a white satin lacquer. All of the hardware was replaced in a new chic gold finish. Our clients got a “new” kitchen for half the price it would have cost to rip out the old kitchen and replace it with all new cabinetry.
